Rochelle’s photography journey began in 2014 during her second semester of college, where she studied photography as an elective and instantly fell in love with it. She knew this was the career for her. However, around this same time, Rochelle found out that she was expecting her firstborn. Despite choosing to drop out of school to take care of her child, she never gave up on photography. After saving up for her first DSLR camera, Rochelle practiced taking photos of her daughter and shared them on social media. Soon, friends and family were asking if she could do their photos as well! At the time when Rochelle was expecting her second child, she was working at a local newspaper company. Looking to broaden her photography experience, she began shooting the local high school games for the newspaper after work. She realized that while she did not love sports photography, she absolutely loved photographing people. This began her journey into the types of portraiture that Rochelle is known for today.
According to Rochelle, the best part of photographing people is capturing memories they can cherish forever and empowering them throughout the process. She says, “I know some people dread taking pictures, and struggle with their self esteem. I believe there is something beautiful in us all. So it is my job to be able to showcase that through my photos, and leave my clients feeling better about themselves than when they came to me!” There is no doubt that Rochelle has a gift for capturing the unique beauty of everyone she photographs at every stage of life. Rochelle’s biggest advice to aspiring artists is to never give up and keep practicing. She describes, “Things that may work for others, may not work for you and that is okay. As artists we all are unique; that’s what makes our work so special. It is good to be inspired by others, but don't compare your worth based on how yours compares to theirs. We are all on different parts of our journey. Be kind to yourself; you are doing your best, and that's what matters!” This wisdom took time to cultivate, as Rochelle shared with us that her journey has not always been easy.

“The biggest challenge in my artistic journey,” says Rochelle, “has been my mental health. I've been a victim of domestic violence, physical/verbal abuse, and trauma for years. This all caused me to struggle with depression, anxiety, and C-PTSD. There's been so many times I had thoughts of ending my life, and giving up on everything! I knew, though, as a single mom my kids need me, and since Jesus found me in one of the lowest points in my life, it became clear he had a bigger purpose for me! He pulled me out of some really dark places, because of him and my faith I was able to push through these obstacles, and overcome them! So many doors that I couldn't imagine opening for me on my artistic journey have now been opened, and I am truly grateful for every single one of them!” Rochelle’s faith has played a key role in changing her life and giving her the courage to pursue her craft.

Today, Rochelle lives in Chandler, Arizona with her two children. She describes, “Although I love being a photographer, my favorite title above anything else is Mom!” About her children, she says, “Arielle and Zaydrian are my world! Them and my faith in Jesus are what keep me grounded, and motivated to keep going. In our free time we love being together, traveling, going on photoshoots, trying new restaurants, cooking, and appreciating the life God blessed us with!” Rochelle says that one of her favorite moments of her day is waking up early to pray and spend time with God, drinking her coffee with the sunrise, and then helping her children get ready for their day at school. Her passion for family is evident in the portraits of her clients, which are full of the glowing smiles of babies, children, parents, and sometimes even the family dog!

For Rochelle, art is a way to express herself and make the world a better place. She says, “Our world is a very dark place, and our art brings light to it! There are so many different mediums of art and they all play their role in beautifying our Earth. Our pieces are a way to bring joy to those who view them! As for us as artists, it gives us purpose and means to share our gifts with others!” Rochelle undoubtedly brings joy to everyone she works with, giving them memories that will last a lifetime. In the near future, Rochelle says that her fans can expect to see more creative photoshoots and collaborations. Another thing she is looking forward to is being featured on an upcoming podcast. She goes on to say, “My fans can also expect me to use my platform more to glorify God and help others! I truly believe we all have a purpose and a gift. Mine is photography and it has changed my life in the best way! I want to be able to help my fans discover theirs, too!” Rochelle’s love and passion for her craft shines through every one of her photographs, and her artistic journey will continue to be an inspiration to us all.
